Thanks @jules & bekkasan I wasn't sure if this would be a good choice for the Sims crowd, but since I was so absorbed in it, I decided to go for it anyway. I'm a big fan of mysteries, and this is by far the best one I've played so far. I have a few more that I haven't played yet, and if it's interesting to people I can post reviews here when I get to them. Hopefully I can try to narrow down what people here really like so I can tailor my reviews better over time.

I rather imagine with a crowd that likes gaming in general you can review pretty much anything and someone will like it I was telling my hubby(big time online gamer...pvp type, but, will play anything)about the goat simulator and of course he new it and had seen some plays of it on utube or somewhere. Now, I don't dare say I'm bored cause he is ready to order it for me. I've told him he can get Sherlock for sure when he finds a deal. I was telling him about the E3 conference with the Fallout game and he digs out all the fallout games for me. I don't even know what the man has....he has too many. The Fallout NewVegas has a weird graphical glitch in it on the xbox so I can't play it, but, I did start Fallout3 which has the DL content in it and am enjoying it.

Blue you can review anything. I like ALL kinds of games. I have quite the collection, all sorts of different stuff. I played 2 other games I got but they both stink I couldn't play them for more then 20 min. before I was diving for the exit button, and I had to force a lot of that 20 min.

Rising World
Developer: JIW-Games Publisher: KISS ltd Price on Steam: $14.99 Currently in "early access," so game play and features will undoubtedly change prior to release. Keep that in mind if you decide to try it for yourself This game is interesting. It's very sandboxy, it has a lot of crafting, and the world is very, very open. There are tons of options, many of which I haven't even tried (I'm not interested in multiplayer,) so this review is solely based on the few hours I've spent playing. (Admittedly, it was cut a bit short due to some GPU issues, sigh.) So you spawn, and when you spawn, you have an axe and a pickaxe. These are used to collect the essential materials that you'll use to build, and build, and build.... First task: Get some wood, then use your crafting menu (tab in your inventory) to turn it into lumber, and then maybe make some sticks, you know, if you need torches, or a basic shelter. You'll also want to create a crafting bench, from which you can create other workstations and some more essentials. It doesn't take that long, but I wandered around for awhile through this gorgeous world looking for just the right spot to set up camp. And there's my sad little shelter, nearly hidden by grass. (Actually this is my second shelter... I lost the first one... by getting lost. Unfortunately there's no map or way to tell where you've been or where you're going, so my biggest gripe is that I kept getting lost and couldn't find my way back to camp.) Anyway, after building a crafting table, and digging down deep into some of the local caves, I was able to construct a furnace I could use to smelt my iron ingot. (These things are cool!) This is what many of the caves look like. They're basically pits, which may or may not have a visible bottom. Very easy to fall in, so watch your step! But they're a great place to find metals and other deposits. Once I had melted down my ingots, I was able to craft an anvil, and after that, I made tools, which allowed me to finally cut my grass so my little campsite didn't look like such a mess. I even managed to make myself a little farm plot, where I planted the tomatoes I had so ungraciously uprooted with my sickle. Overall, it was an extremely relaxing experience, at least while playing in sandbox mode. It's easy to find food, semi-easy to find resources - during the beta, at least, they have "fly mode," where you can fly down into mines and avoid the *splat* that happens if you accidentally lose your way and slide down a slippery slope. Which brings me to my few critiques. -I kept getting lost. In fact, the last 40 minutes I spent playing this game were spent trying to find my way back to my campsite in fly mode. The worlds are, apparently, enormous, and since there's very little difference between one area and another, I officially have no idea how to get home, except by dying and re-spawning, which would mean I'd lose all the items in my inventory other than my original two items... and I'm not really up for that. Hopefully, in the future, they'll add some kind of respawn option. I had originally tried to light my way back to the camp with torches, figuring I would be able to follow them home in the dark, but then I fell down a cave and got turned around, and got too far away to see where the lights were. Sigh. On the other hand, hey, the worlds are huge, and they are your oyster. Just hope you guys have a better sense of direction than I do... -I'm not sure why the caves are designed more like sinkholes than like "caves" that you could reasonably walk into. It does present a new layer of challenge, since you mine downward to create a path for yourself, but quite often you get into the pit only to find it doesn't lead anywhere (not that you could know that, since you can't see - but you shine your torch in and it only goes back about 2 feet? Really?) And once inside the cave, for example, when going downhill, the camera angles make it rather difficult to see which direction you're going. Yes, there's gravity, but since your character can "balance" on little tiny platforms, it's easy to get mixed up about just how steep a slope you're standing on, which can cause you to make poor decisions, slip downhill, and *splat.* Tunneling down, by the way, also gives you a large inventory of "dirt," which eventually fills up your bag, and you have to just toss it away, like so: The "drop item" is Q by default, which, considering that forward is W, has resulted in my son and me dropping tools and not being able to find them, forcing restarts, since you can't collect wood without an axe, and you can't make a crafting table without wood, therefore, you cannot make an anvil to create a new axe if you do not first have an axe. So obviously, there are some things that need to be worked out. If you are playing this game, I recommend re-assigning your "drop item" key to something you would have to hit on purpose (I chose F10, so I stood by that open cave spamming F10 to fill it up with dirt, is the way this story comes full circle). Now, they have added a LOT to this game since I first picked it up, including a journal that gives you initial instructions, and pumpkins, and a few other things, as mentioned in their update notes. They're constantly in contact with the community, and lots of requests have been worked on, so that's encouraging. Overall, I think it's pretty well done so far, but I'm probably not going to spend much more time on it until they've added a bit more to it and maybe tweaked some of the issues. Hopefully they will add animal domestication in the future, because these guys are adorable. I would have liked to have done more testing for you, but unfortunately, my GPU is bugging out currently. I'm not sure how much memory this game uses, so it could be on their end or mine, but I've noticed a lot of alpha games end up doing some memory improvements as they go, so perhaps this one will, too. It's definitely a game worth watching, and for $14.99 when not on sale, it might be worth picking up, on sale at least, if it sounds like your sort of thing. I'll be back to update this if/when I manage to get my GPU sorted out.

It does sound interesting. Are there other people around? I'm not into multiplay except with hubby so is that a possibility? We are sorta playing Fallout3 together. He is on his puter (dag..he can mod it!!) and I am on the xbox, no mods He has the nicest house with mods and a clean tub and toilet!!! lol. But, we are basically running the world and helping each other out with some of the quests just with hints and all. It is fun seeing what he can do with the mods though. I have a hard time seeing this dark world and I lighten it some in the options. I had to have him swim my character to safety under Rivet City I just couldn't find the way in and kept dying trying that quest. So, he is good to have around

bekkasan there's an option to make the world open to LAN as well as multiplayer servers. Lol I obviously need a buddy so I don't get lost. My poor, freshly mowed campsite...

I will talk with hubby about it. He has been looking for something to play together since I'm home right now. That is how we met....playing on line games and we do love it. He is just not into Sims.

Awww bekkasan that's sweet there are lots of videos and such about rising world, and there's stuff to do that I didn't get to because I kept derping and getting lost. I kept trying to go back and test more stuff but my gpu wasn't having it. There are definitely better sources of info than what I wrote here, and you'd get a better idea of what it's like to play in a video. If you do multiplayer or lan I'd love to hear how that goes

Perhaps in time there will be a map like in gta v or fable that will lead you around so you can find your way in that game, [PP] blueasbutterfly hint if you play fable get the Xbox smartglass app (if on Xbox of course) and it makes a world of difference where that map is concerned for me because I get lost in games too!

gayars I have that game for PC somewhere, maybe there's a PC mod as well, because I really have no sense of direction at all lol. Even certain games where the map doesn't stay put (rotates when you turn vs staying rooted with N being up) aaahhhhhhhhh. But to be honest it has taken me a lifetime to just learn the major streets near my house, so in this case it really might be just me :3 hopefully they'll just add a map in future that allows you to mark important places in some way. But then some people I know would just be like "uhh it's that way."

I am directionally deficient too! I am absolutely horrid at directions so you are not the only one.

Thanks @jules & bekkasan I wasn't sure if this would be a good choice for the Sims crowd, but since I was so absorbed in it, I decided to go for it anyway. I saw the description and a short video on Steam a few weeks ago and it looked pretty interesting, and since you said you liked mysteries I was wondering if you'd tried it. im really enjoying all of your reviews. I'm really not much of a gamer nor do I know anyone IRL that games other than my brother who plays Battlefield but that's not my cup of tea! So it's nice to learn more about some other games that I might want to try someday.

I want to play it again to review at some point when I get my new pc built, which is also why I haven't reviewed anything in awhile. I have some partial reviews, or games I've played that I hadn't take screen shots of, or things I need to revisit to double check my memory. I'm really not into shooters or super violent games or zombie/horror/gore stuff either, though I make exceptions occasionally, depending on what else the game has to offer. Like The Old City: Leviathan - I'm so fascinated by the way that game was done. It's a bit close to the line for me, but I'm a sucker for philosophy, and so far it seems the whole game was built around some of the classic philosophical ideas. If you have questions about anything, I'll do my best to answer. I found it hard to find games I loved when I first started looking outside the sims - back when I didn't know any gamers - so I know how it can be.

Oh, cool! I'll look forward to your review of it sometime in the future, then. I thought it looked very intriguing, but am such a wuss I wasn't sure about it. Leviathan sounds interesting too, and I'll check it out, but I'm guessing it's probably too scary/gory for me. I'm such a wuss.

Lego Worlds
Developer: TT Games, Traveller's Tales Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Release Date: Jun 1 2015 (Currently Early Access) Price on Steam: $14.99 Latest updates and patch notes found hereGreetings, Penguin Party People! I have returned from my hiatus, at least temporarily (SSD issues, may need to do *even more* maintenance) - but for now, please have this review of Lego Worlds! These are my initial impressions, since they're still updating the game and adding more stuff to it. Let's see what we have. Here we have the starting screen, where you choose which world you want to explore, name it, and head on down. (I had to start over because apparently backing up my Steam games didn't actually back up my Lego World games - so here I am starting over with the default character. This won't be so bad for you because I will get to show you what COOL stuff I found along the way!) One of the first things I encountered was this elephant. Why did I take a picture of its rear end? Well, I wasn't trying to. When you find a new creature, vehicle, or character, you get this little cut scene, which can be really annoying. It actually freezes your game for a moment - although mobs can still attack you - while the animal or character does some poses or whatever. It's pretty cute, yeah, but if I get punched by a skeleton during those cut scenes one more time... Woo! Treasure! The stuff in the treasure chests includes such things as ice cream, bananas, and various weapons. These large chests are found in different parts of different biomes, so make sure to explore! That's what this game seems to be about thus far, for the most part - exploring. You run around, find different "pieces" such as plants and decorations from different biomes, knock over stuff and collect the coins, which you then use to buy access to said parts, vehicles, characters, etc, for use any time, anywhere. You can also collect "sets," which you can place ready-built into the world. I don't have any in this current game to show you yet, but I did find some interesting little buildings. A lot of this stuff is just shenanigans for now. For example, Got me an ostrich We were running around together, wobbling like mad, when along comes a skeleton. The skeleton scared my ostrich, which ran away without me, and they ended up running right off the map and out to sea. Bye-bye, ostrich! Then I found a car, which was sitting unmanned in the middle of nowhere, so we went for a drive. Here we have a skeleton watching as a minotaur attempts to get out of this rock. So I helped him out by punching him in the face! (Some characters you come across are hostile, others are friendly, and a third set will run away from you. You can attack just about anything, but it's not clear up front what will attack you, so be careful.) Found a camel And then my new favorite mount of all time, Burnard? They breathe fire with a mouse click, but often scare themselves and run away forever, so use with caution. Meanwhile, that poor camel seems to be having some difficulty. Burnard and I found a surfer girl in the desert. Then we hung out on the Sphinx for awhile. Then we made friends with a monkey, though I haven't figured out what the monkeys are for yet. So far, this game seems like a lot of fun, though it's very sandboxy and doesn't have an awful lot of direction to it. There are tons of different biomes, many different worlds to visit, things to collect, buildings to either explore or destroy. There are lots of vehicles, too, including helicopters, planes, a giant digging machine, and at least one type of watercraft (though the submarine doesn't actually sink.) You can mold the terrain to your heart's content, using whatever parts you've found in other biomes, and they're continuing to add more content as we go. It was a bit tricky to review this game only because it's so very open-ended. But I am having a lot of fun exploring it, and I definitely look forward to seeing where it goes. Not bad for Early Access now that the early kinks seem to be worked out. I'll most definitely be adding more to this in the near future A few pet peeves : -Motion blur in screen shots -Weird blur effect that needs to be turned off in the beginning -Still not sure why my graphics aren't sharper -Have not found a way to "undo" something, like the first time I blasted a hole in the side of a hill with my mount's fireball Hopefully this stuff will be addressed at some point, it likely will since they've already done a decent amount of tweaking.
